Studying at FH Güstrow
Individual, financed, practice-oriented – these are all characteristics of our dual degree programmes that qualify public sector employees for Laufbahngruppe 2, 1. Einstiegsamt (senior civil service). If you select a three-year degree course in the disciplines general administration, law enforcement and administration of justice, you immediately enter an employment contract as a civil servant, subject to revocation, and receive a monthly salary of around € 1,350. This makes it possible for you to concentrate on your degree course and not to worry about your future as long as you gain good marks.
The chances of being taken on are particularly high, because the number of study places is based on the state’s requirements. During your studies, you will learn effectively in small groups, and you will have very close contact to your lecturers. You will have plenty of opportunities for conversations and questions. This also contributes to the high success rate. The degree courses prepare graduates for positions in the public sector and are therefore closely linked to practice, providing periods of hands-on experience of up to one year. These make it possible for students to get to know more about their future field of work during their studies. You help to define your own programme through elective modules and bachelor’s students can do periods of study abroad at our partner universities in different European countries, giving you an insight into different work strategies and administrative systems.
Graduates have excellent career opportunities that are made possible by further qualification and promotions. FHÖVPR is not only the principal study location, but also the further education centre for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s public sector. The broad spectrum of continuing professional development courses for the federal state’s administrative staff and the police supports the important process of life-long learning. Every year, approximately 10,000 public sector employees attend these courses.
Güstrow as a studying location
FHÖVPR is a campus university. Classrooms, the library, the sports hall, the outdoor fitness park and the police training facilities are all close to one another on our green campus. This also applies to the student halls of residence with room for 450 students, the café and Mensa (cafeteria), as well as the student club. FHÖVPR has installed a modern indoor firing range. It only takes 10 minutes on foot to get to Güstrow’s Old Town. Here you will find lots of historical buildings, nice cafés and bars. If it’s too far for you to go to the Baltic Sea, you can still go for a swim in Güstrow’s Inselsee or the leisure pool “Oase”. Güstrow is surrounded by meadows, forests and lakes and is therefore a perfect location for sports enthusiasts.
